The house

Four bedrooms and a pool of your own

Villa Icelle was renovated recently in a minimalist chic style: cool floors, high ceilings, wide windows, and doors that open onto the terrace. It fits seven people comfortably, which usually means two families, or one large one.

Ground floor

An open room runs the width of the house: deep linen sofas at one end, a long reclaimed-timber table at the other, a whitewashed fireplace, and glass doors onto the terrace that stay open from breakfast until dark. The windows look down over the town; the doors open to the sea.

The kitchen is fully equipped — oven, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, filter coffee machine, and toaster, and the pans and knives you need to cook a real meal rather than reheat one. There is a washing machine, and an outdoor shower next to the pool.

Sleeping

Three doubles, one single, two bathrooms.

Every bedroom has air conditioning and shutters that close the light out properly. Three are doubles; the fourth is a single.

Bedroom one

Double bed, with its own doors straight out onto the pool terrace, and a window to the hills on the other side.

Bedroom two

Double bed, quieter side of the house, with shuttered windows onto the olive tree and the garden.

Bedroom three

Double bed, shutters opening to the mountains and the pool.

Bedroom four

Single bed, looking out to the pool and harbour.

Outside

The pool is private with rolled towels waiting and oleander along the wall. Beside it is a long table for meals, and there is a smaller table under the cypress for two people and a bottle of rosé.

Below the terrace the roofs of the town step down towards the harbour, with the old castle on the ridge opposite. In the evening the ferry comes in, the lights come on around the bay, and most guests stop making plans to go out.

Getting here

There is no airport on Skopelos.

Most guests fly to Skiathos and take the ferry across, which runs several times a day in summer and takes about 45 minutes to Skopelos Town. Ferries also come from Volos, Agios Konstantinos and Mantoudi on Evia.

A car is useful if you want the far beaches and Glossa, though the town, the harbour and the closest coves are all walkable. Nina can put you in touch with a local car hire firm.
